Property development became our core focus in Singapore in the late 1990s. Since 1997, ACT has developed more than ten residential projects, with total sales of over S$100 million. Our very first project, Gambier Court, won a URA Heritage Award in 2000 for innovative use and restoration of conserved properties. In that vein, we completed the Empire Lofts on Mosque Street in May 2004, twenty-two units of conserved apartments on the fringe of Chinatown. Focused on young expatriate renters, the units provide modernity and convenience amidst the atmosphere of old Chinatown.
To mitigate market risk, most of our construction is driven by pre-sales. With an increasing volatile global market place, property prices will continue to fluctuate based on the business cycle and consumer sentiment. We believe firmly that we are not in this business to speculate on property prices. Our job is to build homes that people desire, and will house their families in comfort for years to come.
Our strategy is to continue focusing on a few niches - landed homes in desirable suburban locations, and boutique apartments catering to the young, urban professional. Our forthcoming projects include a joint venture with Sin Heng Chan Pte Ltd, rehabilitating the disused Cathay Apartments into 50 units of urban studios, to be named "NOMU" (North of Museum Area) and 12 strata semi-detached at One Mount Rosie Road.
We also have eight units of villas and two units of exclusive sea-facing bungalows on Sentosa Cove under development.
